Every calculator, city market report, and article on strbuyers.tools is produced by an editorial team with hands-on STR investing experience. This page documents our research process and the accuracy standards we hold every piece of content to.
Who produces this content
Content is written and edited by the STR Buyers Editorial desk — practitioners with direct experience underwriting, financing, and operating short-term rental properties. We write from investor experience, not by aggregating other blog posts.
Calculator math
Every calculator's formula is documented on its own page. The DSCR ratio, cash-on-cash return, Year 1 cash needs, and market-score formulas are derived from standard real estate underwriting methodology. Assumptions are stated inline so you can audit and override for your market. Affiliate relationships do not influence the math.
City market reports
The 219-city dataset is compiled from public regulatory data, published industry
sources (AirDNA, Mashvisor), and municipal STR ordinance records. Each city report
carries a lastVerified ISO date. Regulation status, ADR, occupancy, and
saturation tier are re-checked annually. We do not extrapolate or fabricate city data.
Source standards
Vendor recommendations trace to first-hand evaluation against published feature sets, pricing, and user track records. Platform-specific claims (DSCR loan requirements, STR insurance coverage) trace to those platforms' current published documentation. We do not cite secondary commentary as a substitute for primary sources.
Content freshness
Calculators and city reports are reviewed when regulatory, financing, or market
conditions change. Blog posts carry a dateModified ISO date visible in
the article header. Posts older than 24 months are flagged for re-verification
before remaining indexed.
Affiliate and sponsorship policy
Affiliate relationships are disclosed on the Disclosures page. Affiliate status does not change calculator math, city market scores, or vendor recommendations. Sponsored content is labeled. No calculator recommends an affiliate vendor before it completes the analysis.
Corrections
If a calculator, city report, or article contains an error, contact us via the
contact page. Factual corrections are
applied within one week and noted in the post's dateModified field.
